How time flies!

Wow! Life got a little busy over here! My older son started Kindergarten last year and on his first day I found out I was pregnant! With all of that craziness, my blog took the back seat. Who knew my little peanut would zap all my creative juice and energy while he was in the oven. I do have to admit my focus was more on my health and exercising, not on my creative work. Yes, I was that crazy pregnant woman at the gym. Yes, I did get a lot of strange looks while hitting the weights. I assure you it was all done safely and under the watchful eye of my fabulous doctor. Happy healthy mommy, see!

{After a workout -6months}

{Hike up Jay Peak-2 months}

Our little peanut arrived safely, three weeks early, on St. Patricks Day! As if a new baby was not enough for me. My mom had a stroke after the baby was just few weeks old. All is good and she is recovering beautifully. Still not enough craziness! I took all the boys, hubby included, on their first camping trip when peanut was 4 months old. They all loved it and did great! Still my plate just not full enough for my liking, so we rescued an 8 year old dog. Lily is a fabulous, gentle dog and she fits in perfectly with our family. Then throw in a few staycations, older son starting 1st grade and a Sweet Sixteen party for my niece. As you can see, life here has been a little nuts. I am determined to focus on the stuff I love to do. Mommy needs to do her own stuff too and the time has come!

Happy surprise arrived the other night. For an early Christmas present, my hubby bought a computer from one of my fabulous friends and gave it to me early! He kept taking my old computer for his super cool new business, Check it out www.awesoos.com, and I could never do anything while he was away with it. I was getting jealous of their affair. So, we are going to start fresh! You might find that I have added a new section on my fitness journey, as well. I'm at a crossroad, do I continue to focus on my creative projects or go "balls out" with my fitness/health journey. Guess we'll just have to see what happens. Thanks for stopping by!

Harry Potter Birthday

This year my son decided he wanted to have a Harry Potter party for his 5th birthday. So naturally I was super excited, because there are so many cool things that you can do! We had to create his party to fit not only 5 year olds, but also other age groups as well. The first thing I did was to recreate the acceptance letter from Hogwarts as the invite and I included a train ticket as well.

Hogwarts' Invites You

We made the invite look like the Howarts' acceptance letter that Harry Potter received in the first movie!  Along with the invite came a train ticket to Platform 9 3/4 for each kid.

Wizards Wands

Each wand was handmade and no two where the same. To keep the kids from fighting over wands, I placed them in a bag and when every kid had arrived we had a wand ceremony. Each kid picked from the bag and we told them that, that wand had picked them!

Hogwarts' House Sorting

For the house sorting, I made badges out of iron-on transfer paper and felt. Those where placed into a bag and once again each kid picked from the bag. No one knew who would be put into what house. The sorting hat was handmade as well! We decided not to place a cell phone into the hat to have him talk, due to balancing and figuring out who goes into what house. The fun is all gamble of who would pull out what!

Potions Class
Next the kids moved onto potions class with Prof. Ratsnest! I painted the mini cauldrons with gold paint to give them more depth. Then, I placed a little bit of baking soda and food coloring into each. The professor then came around with the potion, i.e. vinegar & dish soda, and placed a little bit into each of the mini cauldrons. The kids watched as their potion changed color and fizzed all over! Then they got to play in it see how it felt! Fun!

Golden Dragon Egg and Creature Care
Another great activity for an all ages group is hiding plastic eggs filled with different creatures. We called it the golden dragon egg search. Once every child found an egg, they opened them to see what was waiting for them inside. Prof. Ratsnest told them they had to take care of their creature, just like Harry takes care of his owl, Hedwig. I was lucky enough to be able to find golden eggs at a local big box store, it was around Easter time, and they sold them separately! I could buy one for each child. The creature where from the local dollar store. Cheap and easy!

Wand Defense

My husband was really excited about doing wand defense with the kids as Prof. Sparklebolt. Our son's Godfather dressed as a Dementor and the kids learned how to protect themselves from the evil soul sucking dementor.

Defeating the Dragon
Final activity was the slaying of the dreadful dragon. Of course, we used a baseball bat and not our wands to defeat the dragon. He burst worth with wonderful treats once he was defeated!

Cake Fit For a Slytherin

I am lucky enough to have a girl in our city that bakes wonderful cakes! She made the birthday wizard his own book of spells with his favorite house, Slytherin, and the golden snitch!

Hogwarts Style

One of the most fun parts of this party is the decorating! I made the banner and had tons of fun making up wacky concoctions in various bottles for the potions class!

Happy Birthday Little Wizard!

Our little wizard was one happy dude that day! I had just as much fun creating this party as he did having it.

My Birthday Goodies

This year for my birthday I decided to help my hubby out, or so I thought.  He allowed me to design my own invite, centerpieces and favors. I was led to believe that we would be celebrating at my favorite mexican restaurant with a few close friends. So, my theme of course was Day of the Dead! I happily illustrated my own little man and woman skulls to go on everything. Behind my back and with much help from my tricky friends, he planned a whole other event. Thank goodness all my work was not wasted...he used most everything. Here are some of my projects that I did!

Centerpieces

{Skulls on sticks}

{Centerpieces}
The centerpieces were constructed from Starbucks glass bottles, colorful yarn, paper flowers and custom skulls on dowels. I used Mod Podge to glue the yarn to the glass bottles. It was easy and the end results are super cute!

Favors

{Yummy chocolate skulls}

{Finished Favor}
I found these wonderful molds at this local Boutique that specializes in Mexican artwork and wears.  They can be used for either sugar skulls or chocolate! I used mine for chocolate and add a little cinnamon to spice chocolate wafers up. The next time I use these molds will be for sugar skulls! The envelope is just butcher paper cute with pinking shears and glued on the sides.

Invitation

For the invite I popped the skull out to add dimension! Simple and fun!

Day of the Dead!

This past October & November I decided to finally dive into doing some Day of the Dead stuff. A friend of mine is of Hispanic decent and she took me to an inspiring event at a local high school. The kids really inspired me with their creativity. So, for Halloween I decided to paint a mask and use that theme for my costume. Below are a few pics of my process. I have also posted one pic of my sugar skull, unfortunately I did not photograph that process of making the actual sugar skulls, or the painting party we had at my friends house. I promise the next round I will! Enjoy!
